This email is original from "Halway, Pleased MSN Groups" and was writen by Heather Burns (curtsmithzerodisc' s webmaster):"To get right to the point, Universal are changing their minds about the upcoming greatest hits anthology. They now want it to be the same old same old hits and singles, repackaged as usual, plus the one new track (Floating).
*For whatever reason, they have gone back on their earlier promise and want to drop the solo work (Tomcats, Mayfield, etc) and the live Mad World.*
Which will leave us with another utterly boring "greatest hits" rehash with just one new piece of music on it.
Real fans will be out of another chuck of pocket cash, and our boys will have egg on their face and mud on their shoes for having put the time and input *for the first time in their careers* into an "anthology" that turned out to be a joke.
*What can we do?*
You have the official OK to go to http://www.hip-o.com/ - which is the web site for the Universal label that the anthology will come out on - and click on "contact us". Tell them to allow the solo work and live tracks onto the anthology. Use whatever language you feel necessary.
You could also include links to these pages on Memories Fade
which make a point about how many of "these" have been done already, and what on earth is Universal thinking by releasing another one? Hopefully if there is enough of a fan outcry, Universal will change their minds (again) and go back to what this project originally was.
If they don't, I for one will be happy to treat the dumbed down anthology like I have treated all the rehashed greatest hits - which is not to acknowledge them, like a bastard cousin at a family gathering. (cue start to Break It Down Again) OK troops, you have your marching orders. We need everyone to pitch in here, so get writing.
ORIGINAL INFORMATION ON "Halfway, Pleased" RELEASE: (i.e., what we could be losing)
"We decided to get involved with Universal with regards to an upcoming anthology. Originally it was going to be just re-packaged prior releases from TFF. With our input it is now a double album (and separate video DVD) that includes TFF, solo material, a new track "Floating Down The River" and a live recording of "Mad World", we like it. We're also looking into recording a few special shows in LA in August for a live DVD." - Curt
Anyone else want to help? This is very bad! It makes me angry and I am feeling an urge to express that anger. Once I've managed that, I'll copy-paste the results after sending them on their way. Anyone else who sends a letter off to Universal should feel free to do the same!
